The Golden GOAT Story

The Full Story

"Golden" refers to Golden Gloves, championship belts and abundance.  It's about excellence in boxing.

"GOAT" stand for "Greatest Of All Time".  It's about being the best possible version of yourself and fulfilling your true potential.

"Golden GOAT" is a mindset.  If you pursue excellence and you decide to be your greatest possible self, success is inevitable.  If you believe it and you have the courage to go after it, you will achieve it.

My name is Peter de Lange, you can call me Coach Pete. I discovered my passion for boxing when I was 16 years old while I was watching the summer Olympics on TV.  I was drawn to the excitement of the sport and found myself constantly waiting for the other events to end so that the telecast would switch back to the boxing.

When the games ended I began watching as much professional boxing as I could find on tv. I also studied the old school boxers and learned the history of the sport. Soon I made my way to the local gym to sign up for training.

I trained at VARS gym in Duncan for the next 3 years and had 3 amateur fights before work and other distractions caused me to move on.

As an adult I continued to love boxing and I watched the fights religiously on tv. Unfortunately however, I stopped training and started going down a dark path. What started as having a few beers on the weekend soon spiraled out of control and by the time I was in my mid 20's I was a full blown alcoholic.  I was a functional alcoholic, I maintained my job as manager of a sports store and my life seemed fairly normal, but I was drinking pretty much every day.

As I got older the alcohol led to other substances and my health started to deteriorate.  I was overweight, I was depressed, I had constant anxiety and my self esteem was nonexistent.  I didn't believe that I was worthy of living a good life.

When I was 32 I finally got back into a boxing gym, and that started the road back to redemption.  It was a long road, but at least I was doing something.  The drinking continued for another 9 years.  I tried to quit many times but always failed.

Finally, in 2021, my mindset shifted and I was able to make the decision to quit using alcohol and focus on improving my life.  There was a lot going on at that time and I found that natural health practices were my ticket to salvation.  I gave up booze, got rid of refined sugar, stopped smoking weed, and I quit eating heavily processed food.  I started eating organic whole foods and taking care of myself in ways that I never would have imagined before. The Wim Hof Method was a major part of my transformation.  Cold water immersion, breath work, and meditation are absolute game changers! I discovered the law of attraction.  Positive thinking, treating myself and others with respect, visualizing my objectives, syncing up my vibration with success and abundance. This is what gave me the confidence to pursue my dream of becoming a boxing coach!

In 2023 I started teaching group classes at a local yoga studio. The yoga studio classes were short lived but in 2024 "Future GOAT Boxing" in Maple Bay took their place.  We spent a year there before taking the next step and moving into Duncan. Golden GOAT Boxing Club was born!

That's where we're at now.  My twin brother has been helping every step of the way and we're constantly striving to improve our service and help others to get on the right path.

Thank you for reading my story, I look forward to seeing you at the club!
